The Beacon Project
The Beacon Christian Community is a Thameside Methodist Circuit initiative with support from other Dartford churches on the Bridge Estate. The Beacon’s presence on the site will not be limited to worship meetings, but will seek to encourage community development within this new area by offering support and instigating community initiatives and events. In so doing, the community will endeavour to embody Christ’s kingdom, demonstrate grace, and create a challenging and yet open community for others to come and belong.
The aims of the Community will be:-
- Helping establish a sense of community on the Bridge Estate.
- Helping early residents who need support.
- Creatively building bridges with neighbouring established communities.
- Organising and generating momentum for community events and gatherings.
- Establishing an innovative and holistic expression of Christian faith centred on a strong sense of community.
- Educating and promoting a “green” and ethical lifestyle.
- To serve the community in an appropriate, sensitive, and authentic way so as to demonstrate the teaching and presence of Jesus Christ.
The Bridge Development is being built on the site of the old Joyce Green Hospital, just north of Dartford and adjacent to the Queen Elizabeth Bridge .
It will comprise 1,500 new homes, a hotel, a primary school (which will act as the “community hub”), and a large industrial area.
